Lower Left Abdominal Pain in Women

Some people have constipation, while others frequent loose stools, alternately move often in urgent need of the bowel, constipation and even the experience of others, and diarrhea. Symptoms can vary from person to person. Pain that spreads in the upper abdomen and often starts on the sides and back. The pain may burst soon after a large meal, or six to 12 hours after an episode of heavy drinking.

Treatment:

Medications are an important element in mitigating the symptoms. Activated charcoal capsules may also help. If the pain is high in the abdomen and occurs after meals, antacids may provide some relief, especially if you feel heartburn or indigestion. Avoid citrus fruits, fatty foods, fried or fatty foods, tomatoes, caffeine, alcohol and soft drinks. Your doctor may suggest fiber supplements or laxatives for occasional constipation, and drugs against diarrhea, tranquilizers to calm you down, or medications to reduce muscle spasms of the colon of control to reduce abdominal pain. Over-the-counter antacids such as Tums, Maalox or Pepto-Bismol can reduce certain types of pain in abdomen of women.

Pain in Lower Left Abdomen in Men

Causes of pain in lower abdomen are many. However, there are few causes that are commonly found in man. These common causes include appendicitis, diverticulitis, kidney stone, food poisoning, bladder infection, hernia, gastric problem, colon cancer, prostate cancer, etc. Although the pain in every quadrant of abdomen may have some serious consequences, there are certain quadrants of the abdomen that may result in severe discomfort. Lower left abdominal pain is one such type. In fact, few abdominal ailments cause severe and sharp pain in men.

It is always advisable to visit the physician in case of severe and sharp pain. Cystitis or Bladder infection : – Bacterial infection in the bladder causing inflammation in the urinary tract is responsible for severe pain in lower side of abdomen. Some other symptoms of the cystitis include burning sensation in urinary tract, urge to urinate frequently and discomfort in pelvic region of the body.

Diverticulitis : – It is a disorder that is an outcome of pouching of the bowel’s wall. This disorder usually occurs in large intestine and causes immense pain in the lower left quadrant. This disorder is mainly found in elderly people and is most of the time on the left side of lower abdomen.

Colon cancer : – One of the lower parts of the abdomen is colon. Colon cancer is one of the disorders that cause sharp pain in lower left abdomen. Any change in your bowel habit that bothers you, loss of appetite and remarkable weight loss are the main symptoms of colon cancer. Colon cancer also results in rectal bleeding and other abdominal discomfort, etc.

Left Abdominal Pain: A Serious Ailment in Children & Kids

Abdominal discomfort and pain is one of the common ailments that troubles children. Like pain in the other quadrants of the abdomen, the pain in left abdomen – lower and upper left abdomen may also lead to some more serious conditions.

It may seem to be just a normal one for many elders, albeit it is the child which actually knows how painful it is. So, it is always necessary to get the child check on experiencing abdominal pain as it may not be as small issue as normally elders feel. In case of recurrent abdominal pain in children, the parents of the children should better consult a good and experienced physician immediately. For now, you can know some of the general causes that include:

Constipation and Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) : Constipation is simply referred as scanty excretion of stool. Some of the children don’t feel like going to the loo for more than a day and finds it difficult to excrete. This problem is one of the causes of pain on left side of the abdomen. Moreover, the irritable movement in the bowel also causes severe pain in abdomen. The child gets irritated by these disorders and sometimes, this irritation also reflects in nature of the child in future.

Virus in intestinal tract : A virus present in the intestinal tract causes Gastroenteritis, which further causes left side stomach pain. This disorder may be found in children whose parents also had the disease. The child suffering from gastroenteritis may experience problems like fever, diarrhoea and vomiting along with the abdominal pain.

Conditions affecting pelvic organs : There are disorders such as ovarian torsion and testicular torsion that cause pain in lower left side. The testicular torsion is a disorder found in adolescent male due to lack of supply of blood to the testicle. In this disorder, the testicle of the child usually swells and becomes painful.

Similarly, the ovarian torsion is found in adolescent girls due to flow of blood into the ovary and not out of it. These disorders cause severe abdominal pain in young girls and boys.

Menstrual cycle : The left side of pain on abdomen can also be caused when the girls become mature and their menstrual cycle starts. During their periods, the girls usually experiences pain in abdomen that is not of much harm. When the pain becomes severe than normal, the girl should get checked to avoid any major health problem.

Sexual abuse : Although there is hardly any association of abdominal pain in children with the sexual abuse, it has been confirmed that the sexually abused children experiences abdominal pain for longer period than the normal children. So, always get your child checked if he or she complains of severe abdominal pain.
